Die Virtuelle Airline Macchi entstand Anfang April 2006 aus der BEAR (VA). Diese wiederum wurde am 1. August 2005 als Partner von Lion Air VA und Interflight VA, so wie auch Airquarius VA gegründet. Als vollwertiges Mitglied der Alliance World Airlink nahm die Airline mit Homebase in Adams Int’l, auf Barbados, am 15. August mit zwei A320-233 und einem A300-622R den Flugbetrieb in der Karibik auf. Wenig später kam ein weiterer A320-233 und ein A300-622R hinzu. Da die Airline nicht genügend Umsatz machte, geriet sie gegen Ende des Jahres in zunehmende finanzielle Schwierigkeiten und stellte bereits im Januar 2006 den Flugbetrieb wieder ein. Unter der Führung von Lionworks begann Ende Januar die Sanierung.
Im Rahmen des Projektes „Latin America“ wurde mit der Regierung von Guyana ein Abkommen geschlossen, nach dem der Flughafen von Georgetown zum neuen AWA Drehkreuz für Südamerika ausgebaut wurde. Dieser wird die Homebase der ehemaligen BEAR, welche ein neues Lavery erhilt und in Macchi umbenannt wurde. Der Name ist Hindi (neben Englisch wichtigste Sprache in Guyana), bedeutet „über das Meer“ und ist ebenfalls der Name eines „fliegenden“ indischen Fisch’s. Die Flotte erhielt weitere A320-233 und A300-622R, so wie mehrere gebrauchte A300B4-120 der Bosporus European Airline. Am 6. April 2006 wurde der erste A340-313 übernommen, ein zweiter folgte wenig später. Einen guten Monat danach kam der erste von insgesamt drei A340-642X. Mit dem ersten A340-642X wurde am 12. Mai 2006 der Flugbetrieb vom Cheddi Jagan International Airport von Georgetown aufgenommen. Zugleich eröffnete der A340-642X die non stop Flugverbindung vom deutschen Leipzig-Halle International Airport nach Guyana, welche dann aber mit dem A340-313 geflogen wird. Die entgültige Flotte ist seit Anfang April 2007 mit dem Erhalt des dritten und letzten A340-642X komplett. Nach der Einweihung der Homebase (des ausgebauten Cheddi Jagan International Airports) am 30. April 2007, nahm Macchi VA am 1. Mai 2007 den vollen Flugbetrieb auf allen im Flugplan enthaltenen Flugstrecken auf. Täglich unternimmt Macchi VA von Georgetown 60 Flüge in 27 Länder.
Im Oktober 2008 wurde eine Flugplanoptimierung und damit auch geringfügige Flottenänderung beschlossen. In dem Zusammenhang wurde je ein A300B4-120 und A300-622R ausgeflottet und die 3 A340-313 an German Flight International VA verkauft. Dafür wurden 6 werksneue A330-322 beschafft. Der erste davon nahm am 22. November 2008 den Flugbetrieb auf. Zudem wurden 2 A330-223F bestellt – die ersten beiden Maschinen für Macchi Cargo! Mit diesen stieg Macchi ab 1. Dezember 2008 ins Luftfrachtgeschäft ein und fliegt Routen in Südamerika und in die USA so wie nach Westeuropa abdecken. Damit fliegt Macchi VA von Georgetown nun täglich 65 Flüge in 30 Länder.

BEAR VA was founded on August 1st 2005 as partner of Luton Air VA, Interflight VA and Airquarius VA with Homebase in Adams Int’l, on Barbados. On August 15th 2005 BEAR VA starts to operate with two A320-233 and one A300-622R in the caribian region. Shortly after one more A320-233 and one A300-622R was added. Because the airline did not make enough profit, she had more and more financial problems towards the end of the year. In January of 2006 flight service was stopped. Redevelopment started under the leadership of Lionworks.
There was a contract with the government of Guyana in connection with the project „Latin America“and the airport of Georgetown was extended to the new Alliance World Airlink hub for South America. This will be the home base of the former BEAR, which got a new design and was renamed into Macchi. The name is hindi (besides English one of the most important languages in Guyana). The fleet got more A320-233 and A300-622R as well as more used A300B-120 of the Bosborus European Airlines. April 6, 2006 the first A340-313 was taken over and shortly after a second one. A good month later the first of a total of three A340-642X was added. Flight service of Cheddi Jagan International Airport (Georgetown) was officially started with this first A340-642X on May 12, 2006. At the same time the A340-642X opened up the non stop flight connection from the german Leipzig/Halle International Airport to Guyana, which was later flown with a A340-313. In the beginning of February 2007 A320-233 were sold and newer, stronger A320-216 were bought. Thus, the maintenance of the fleet was simplified because the -216 were powered by the same CFM engines as the A340-313 instead of IAE-engines.
The final fleet is complete with the receiving of the third and last A340-642X since the beginning of April 2007. Macchi VA started full flight service in all contained routes of the flight plan after the opening of the home base (of the extended Cheddi Jagan International Airport) on April 30, 2007. Macchi VA undertakes 60 flights from Georgetown into 27 countries daily.
Optimizing flight plans and therefore minor changes in the fleet were agreed upon in October 2008. In relation with that one A300B4-120 and one A300-622R were sorted out and the three A340-313 were sold to German Flight International VA. In return 6 brand new A330-322 were built. The first one of that started flight service on November, 22 in 2008. In addition 2 A330-223F were ordered – the first two aircrafts for Macchi Cargo! Macchi became part of the airfreight business on Dezember 1, 2008 and covers routes in South America, USA, as well as West Europe. So Macchi VA travels on 65 flights into 30 countries daily.

Die Virtuelle Airline Macchi Guyana Regional entstand Anfang April 2007 als Tochter der Macchi VA für regional Flüge innerhalb von Guyana sowie nach Brasilien, Suriname, Trinidat und Venezuela. Die Flotte besteht aus 6 Turboprop Maschinen – je zwei der Typen Embraer EMB-120, ATR42-320 und ATR72-210. Heimatflugplatz und Stützpunkt dieser sechs Maschinen ist der alte Teil (Timehri) des Cheddi Jagan International Airport. Primäres Flugziel von MGR ist der Coronado Flugplatz im Westen von Guyana, da sämtliche Verbindungsflüge von Georgetown nach Coronado von MGR geflogen werden!

Macchi Guyana RegionalThe virtual airline Macchi Guyana Regional come out in beginning of april 2007 as daughter of Macchi VA for regional flights in Guyana and from Guyana to Brasilien, Suriname, Trinidat and Venezuela. The fleed consist of six turboprop aircrafts – two a time Embraer EMB-120, ATR42-320 and ATR72-210. Home base is the old part (Timehri) of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Georgetown. Primary destination of MGR is the Airport of El Coronado in western Guyana, because all conections from Georgetown to Coronado are flown by MGR.
